A new policy laid out in a VA memo is making it more difficult for veterans with breast cancer to get their health care needs covered by the government. For the roughly 100 male veterans who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer each year, the path to getting service connection will now be significantly harder. They will have to show their cancer is connected to their military service, a burden that is often difficult to meet.
