40% of vets express concerns over military toxic exposures
 
Two months after the VA launched new medical screenings focused on military toxic exposure injuries, about 400,000 veterans have already reported potential health concerns related to those issues. VA physicians have screened more than 1 million patients since the beginning of November 2022. The five-minute survey is conducted with all veterans seeking care at VA health facilities and is designed to look for any potential hidden health issues related to toxic exposure and highlight new benefits available to veterans with associated injuries.

Legislation to give veterans refurbished computers signed into law

A bipartisan bill to provide federal surplus and repairable computers to non-profit computer refurbishers, who will then repair and distribute these computers to veterans, students, and others in need, was signed into law by President Biden. The Computers for Veterans and Students Act requires each nonprofit computer refurbisher receiving computers to provide training programs in the use of this technology.

118th Congress has more military veterans, but representation remains low

One of the largest cohorts of veterans in years is now on Capitol Hill. The 118th Congress will include 97 members with military experience representing 36 states, the biggest share of veterans in the legislature since 2015. Groups working to recruit and elect veterans to public office said the makeup of the 118th Congress is promising. Five additional veterans will serve in this Congress compared to the last Congress, making up 18% of the legislature.
