In a report, the VA's Office of Inspector General estimated that the VA has failed to inform up to 87,000 Vietnam war veterans and their survivors that they may now qualify for retroactive compensation
benefits because of exposure to toxic herbicides such as Agent Orange. Those overlooked veterans and their families could be entitled to more than $844 million from the VA.

In the past decade, VA has recouped $2.4 billion in separation pay, bonuses from disabled vets |
|
|
In the past decade, the VA has recouped more than $2 billion from more than 110,000 veterans who received separation pay from the Defense Department and later filed for disability compensation, an effort that has resulted in financial hardship for some former
service members. While the VA has been required to recover the money since the 1940s – and the DoD is required to inform transitioning service members of this potential transaction – veterans have often been left surprised when the recoupment letters arrive, in some cases decades after they received the money.

|
According to a federal watchdog’s report, poor planning of the VA's new $453 million online platform for education benefits has caused project costs to double and its completion date to be pushed back two years. VA has said the original $453 million
contract for the work has now been updated 25 times, to include development of new features, migration of existing student information to a new database, and continued support of the system into the future. The new price tag for the project is $932 million.

Veterans who experience stiffness, pain, or other issues in the neck may be able to trace their condition back to something that happened during their service. Car wrecks are the most common source of neck injuries, but there are many other ways to hurt your
neck when you’re enlisted. If you injured your neck in service or exacerbated another condition that causes neck pain and loss of range of motion in your neck, you may qualify for VA disability benefits.
