C&P exams are important because the VA uses the information gathered in this exam to help determine disability ratings and the monthly amount of compensation you receive.
A compensation and pension exam is more commonly known as simply a C&P exam or a VA claim exam. C&P exams are what the VA uses to determine the severity of a veteran’s condition and whether it is service connected. These exams give veterans a chance to explain their condition and symptoms to a medical professional. Being properly prepared can help ease any anxiety you may feel about this critical exam and help it go as smoothly as possible.
VA secretary expects progress on veterans suicide and homelessness soon
VA Secretary Denis McDonough said he expects to see progress happen soon in efforts to reduce homelessness and suicide among veterans, despite the difficulty and long-term challenges of both issues. In September, VA researchers announced that veteran suicides fell to fewer than 17 a day in 2020, the lowest rate since 2016. Earlier this month, officials announced the number of homeless veterans dropped by more than 11% from the start of 2020 to the start of 2022, a significant decrease after years of minor changes.
Lawsuit grows against Navy over fuel-tainted Hawaii water
A fuel storage facility above Pearl Harbor leaked petroleum into the Navy's tap water system last year and sickened nearly 6,000 people, mostly those living in military housing. More than two dozen families have now joined a lawsuit accusing the U.S. Navy of making them sick
from jet fuel that leaked into the tap water in their Hawaii homes. There are now more than 100 people in a lawsuit that accuses the Navy of destroying more than 1,000 water samples collected from affected homes.
Traumatic brain injuries may be linked to veteran suicides
A recent study has linked traumatic brain injuries with increased rates of suicide. The study found those with minor traumatic brain injuries, also known as concussions, had suicide rates three times higher than the general population across the study. Suicide rates were five times higher for those veterans who experienced a moderate or severe brain injury.
