Woods & Woods named 'Tour of Honor' sponsor for Honor Flight of Southern Indiana

Woods & Woods President Neil Woods with his employees speaking to Honor Flight of Southern Indiana's Vice President Diane Shaw.

Have you taken your Honor Flight or signed up to take your flight? Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit  comprised of independent hubs working together to achieve the Honor Flight mission. Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the opportunity to visit memorials built in their honor, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other veterans. Honor Flight has been on the forefront of our minds, as we are proudly sponsoring our local hub's 17th Honor Flight in October. Woods & Woods President, Neil Woods, attended the welcome home parade for the first Southern Indiana Honor Flight 10 years ago. He said it was a moving experience he will always remember. You can find your local hub here if you are interested in taking your Honor Flight. Honor Flights wouldn't be possible without donors aiding the cause, as Honor Flight Network receives no government funding. You can donate to the Honor Flight Network online or by mail.

A nearly $3 billion shortfall in VA benefits is looming

The U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

Seeking to avoid a disruption in veterans benefits payments later this year, a bipartisan group of senators has introduced a bill to fix a nearly $3 billion shortfall for disability and education benefits the VA expects to face by October. If Congress does not enact a fix to address the benefits funding gap by Sept. 20, “compensation and pension payments to over 7 million veterans and survivors and readjustment benefit payments to over 500,000 individuals that are scheduled to be delivered on Oct. 1, 2024, are at risk.”

Man holding his face in his hands.

In an unannounced appearance at a New York psychedelic conference, the VA’s Dr. Shereef Elnahal said his agency was ready to start rolling out MDMA-assisted therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder as soon as regulators approved it. But expectations for MDMA’s first-of-a-kind approval unraveled a few weeks later when FDA advisers voted overwhelmingly against the drug, citing flawed data, questionable research conduct, and potential safety and addiction risks. The panel’s recommendation isn’t binding, but the FDA is widely expected to delay or decline approval when it makes its decision by mid-August.
