Camp Pendleton finds 'forever chemicals' in drinking water

Camp Pendleton leaders sent a notice to service members and civilians who live and work on the base's north end last week, alerting them that recent testing indicated their drinking water contained higher-than-desired levels of PFAS, a potentially carcinogenic chemical Steps are being taken to bring the PFAS back down below 20 parts per trillion, the threshold set by the state’s Department of Drinking Water.

Camp Lejeune health claims stalled

The process of compensating people affected by the water contamination at Camp Lejeune is moving at a snail’s pace since Congress passed a law last August allowing victims to sue for damages. Federal officials say more than a million people may have been exposed between 1953 and 1987 when the base’s water was polluted with surface wastes migrating into the groundwater used for wells. A growing percentage of cases are becoming wrongful death suits rather than damage claims for illnesses as more individuals sickened by the water die due to their conditions.

What families should know before a veteran's death

Various benefits are available for veterans' survivors. Surviving spouses and other family members of deceased veterans may be eligible for thousands of dollars a month in VA benefits. However, collecting these benefits means someone has to know exactly what to do when the veteran passes and where to locate the necessary documents. Families and veterans can prepare today for the future.

Veterans, Watch Out for VA Claim Sharks

"Woods and Woods provided the legal support I had needed for years. Started with them at 10% and they got me 100%. All of their staff was very professional and maintained contact with me throughout the 3-year process. I would highly recommend them to anyone who feels let down by the VA's disability system. I could have never succeeded in my claims without their help."
