The VA has proposed establishing a first-of-its-kind grant program that would increase access to its programs and benefits. The program would fund entities that provide legal support to help veterans and former service members access VA programs, improve their military discharge status or characterization of service, and seek a review of a military record before a board of correction for military or naval records.

Critics say VA plan to address rare lung condition won't help afflicted veterans

The VA plans to create a diagnostic code to ensure that veterans with constrictive bronchiolitis, an illness linked to burn pits and other airborne pollutants, can receive a disability rating and compensation for the condition. However, the proposal doesn't add any new standards or criteria for evaluating veterans for the difficult-to-diagnose disease, an omission critics say will shortchange veterans.

The Honor Flight of Southern Indiana (HFSI) completed their 17th flight on Oct. 5, marking 10 years of our local hub flying veterans to Washington, D.C. for a day to visit monuments built in their honor. With an early morning send off and a late night welcome home parade, the 87 veterans aboard HFSI's 17th flight were showered with praise and many thanks.
