Congress is considering a proposal that would grant full retirement and disability benefits to combat veterans and allow remarried widows to continue receiving DIC benefits, while slashing future disability checks for veterans with tinnitus and sleep apnea. The Take Care of America’s Veterans Act is a package with dozens of VA-related legislative proposals. The bill had not gained significant traction at the time of this publication. Both the DAV and VFW have spoken out against provisions in the bill which would cut healthcare and compensation benefits for millions of veterans. |

Families of veterans lost to suicide push for 'Green Star' recognition |

Green Star Families of America is a veteran-led nonprofit organization advocating for recognition of families left behind after veteran suicide loss. The organization, founded by a former Army medic in 2020, has been hearing from widows of service members that there has never been a place for them to properly grieve inside the military community. While Green Star families are not nationally recognized, there is momentum for change through a bipartisan Green Star banner bill. |

First look at the Global War on Terrorism Memorial design in Washington |

The first renderings of the future Global War on Terrorism Memorial on the National Mall in Washington have been unveiled. Crafted by architect Kengo Kuma in partnership with the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, the memorial’s design is the culmination of eight years of input from 20,000 Americans, including veterans from every branch of service and every conflict since World War II. The foundation is aiming for a 2027 groundbreaking and a project completion date of late 2028. |
