Veterans benefits will see biggest cost of living boost in 40 years
 
Veterans could see their benefits boosted by the biggest margin in four decades after Congress finalized plans to guarantee that veterans' checks see the same cost-of-living boost as Social Security payouts. Federal officials aren't expected to announce the Social Security benefits adjustment until mid-October. The VA COLA increase would apply to payouts for disability compensation, clothing allowance, dependency and indemnity benefits, and other VA assistance programs.

Senator Raphael Warnock is pushing bipartisan legislation allowing spouses of dead military service members to keep certain VA and Department of Defense benefits if they remarry. The bill would allow surviving spouses to retain the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) and Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) if they remarry, regardless of age.
