Veterans who receive VA disability compensation will see a 2.5% increase to their monthly checks in 2025. This increase will apply to the more than five million veterans who receive VA disability benefits, as well as nearly half a million surviving spouses and dependents receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC). This adjustment is the lowest it has been since 2020, when the amount increased just 1.3%, and it’s almost one percent lower than last year's rise of 3.2%. |

Vietnam-era veterans exposed to nerve agents and hallucinogenic drugs in a classified military research program more than 50 years ago are appealing for retroactive VA disability payments. Now in their 70s and early 80s, the veterans were sworn to silence and restricted from reporting the debilitating health effects from the program, which included paralysis, cancer, depression and psychosis. They were also restricted from obtaining disability compensation from the VA. |

Two veterans will argue to Supreme Court that VA disability claims aren't getting 'benefit of doubt' |
The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case that challenges the VA's handling of benefits applications and appeals, a question that could affect thousands of previously decided or current claims. In the case Bufkin v. McDonough, the plaintiffs challenged decisions by the VA and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims denying benefits for health conditions. They argue that the Veterans Board of Appeals, and later, the appeals court, failed to apply a "benefit-of-the-doubt" rule that should have resulted in disability compensation awards. |

Hundreds of veterans kicked out of military for being gay will have discharges upgraded |
The Pentagon announced more than 800 former U.S. service members who were kicked out of the military for being gay will automatically have their discharge status upgraded. The upgraded discharges will allow hundreds of veterans access to VA benefits for the first time. While Pentagon officials are touting that 96% of those booted under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" now have honorable discharges, there are still thousands of service members with less-than-honorable discharges who were kicked out under previous bans on LGBTQ+ people serving in the military. |
