Individuals who leave the military with a discharge that's less than fully honorable retain the right to upgrade their discharge even years later. The move ensures that veterans remain competitive and are not disadvantaged in the homebuying market due to changes that may result from a key class-action settlement involving the National Association of Realtors. Until the fix was announced, veterans could not pay their buyer-broker fees when using their home loan benefits.
