Learn more about how PACT Act affects you at VA town halls
More than 90 VA facilities around the country will be holding in-person town halls this month to provide information on what the PACT Act could mean for veterans and their families. Town halls are set to take place the week of Dec.10 to 17, in what the VA is calling its PACT Act Week of Action. There will be at least one event in all 50 states, as well as in Puerto Rico and
the District of Columbia.
Racial disparities in benefits claims decisions are the subject of an ongoing VA study. During his monthly press conference, VA Secretary Denis McDonough said the results of the study will be published when the study is completed. McDonough's comments followed the filing of a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Connecticut on Nov. 28 which alleges the VA was more likely to reject disability
benefits claims made by black veterans than white veterans from 2001 to 2020.
2023 monthly payments for disability compensation benefits have been officially announced by the VA. Outside influences like inflation rates factor into
these new amounts. The new rates affect more than 5 million veterans (and growing) who receive disability checks from the VA.
New life insurance program for disabled vets to launch in January
Veterans with disabilities will be guaranteed access to life insurance policies under a new VA program, set to launch early next year. The move opens up
basic coverage for roughly 4 million individuals who in the past have struggled to qualify for life insurance plans because of their injuries and illnesses. The new program will be open to any veteran with disabilities aged 80 and under, with no disqualifications for medical reasons.
